3 Easy Ways to Spruce Up Your Bedroom
How long has it been since you’ve redecorated your home? If your space is feeling dated, perhaps it’s time for a makeover. With the state of the economy today, you probably don’t have much in the budget for decorating. No problem! You don’t need to spend time and money redecorating every room in your home.
You’d be surprised what some fresh paint and a couple of decorative pillows can do to a room! Now, how do you decide where to begin your little decorating project? Considering how much time we all spend sleeping, the bedroom sounds like a great place to start! Here are 3 easy ways you can spruce up your bedroom for 2009.
1.) A Little Color Goes a Long Way
Throwing some color on the wall is a really simple and cheap way to transform the look of your bedroom. Paint all four walls or paint one accent wall, just as long as you get some color on there! An accent wall is actually a great way to make a big difference in a smaller room. An accent or feature wall is the wall you face when standing in your doorway. By painting this one wall in a slightly contrasting color to the rest of your walls, you are able to dramatically increase the size of your room – not literally, but it instantly feels larger!
2.) Paint Yourself a Headboard
Many beds today come with a built in headboard, which is great but what if you don’t want to spend the money on a whole bed frame? No problem at all! Paint your own headboard right there on the wall! Using blue painter’s tape, mark off a rectangle the width of your bed – from the floor to the ceiling. Now choose a color in slight contrast with your wall paint and paint in your rectangle. You can either leave the rectangle a solid color or embellish it with small flowers or other details, depending on your artistic abilities. There you have it! Instant headboard! A strip of wallpaper cut to the width of your bed also works great!
3.) Dress Your Bed to the Nines
A real simple way to change up the look of your bedroom is by changing your top of bed. Typically, the bed is the focal point of a bedroom. It’s a good idea to have at least two different comforters or duvet covers – one for fall/winter and one for spring/summer. For your winter bedspread, choose a cover in a warmer color like Red, brown or orange. For your spring/summer comforter, choose a cooler color. Whites, blues, or greens work great! Many comforters and duvets are actually reversible which is another cost-effective little tip. Now all you have to do is purchase a couple sets of coordinating decorative pillows – one for each season – and you’ve got yourself a new bedroom!
As you can see, you don’t have to do a lot to make a big difference. In these tough economical times, it’s all about saving time and money with quick fixes.
