The original clocks were driven by water which was called by the Roman ‘horologium’. This term was used to for the earliest mechanical clocks. These home decor clocks indicated time by sounding a bell each hour. This kind of ‘horloge’ became called a ‘clocca’, from the Latin for ‘bell’. By the 14th century, the “clocca” evolved to ‘clocke’ in English. Augsburg and Nuremberg provided some major advancement in the technology of the clocks as we know them now. Domestic clocks began to appear in British houses in about 1600. The history of clocks is extensive and many people collaborated in the different technologies that are used in making clocks.

• If you are looking into a French Country appearance choose country accent clocks. Wooden clocks, iron accents will provide a great finish.
• Stainless steel, brass and chrome can give a Contemporary look. Try to find minimalist lines as details for your clock to give it a fresh look.
• To emphasize your clock pick a big and oversized styles. Small clocks might not provide the look that you want.
