Outdoor Home Decor: Bring Back The Old

outdoor-home-decorThe current name of the game for outdoor home décor seems to be repurposing. Many homeowners are taking the themes, appliances, and furniture pieces that would normally be found inside the house and readapting them to be weatherproof and functional for the outside. From surround sound to flat screen televisions to full kitchens to copper fire pits, designers and their clients have vast new options for making the outside of a home the perfect, cozy place to relax and entertain.

For some, outdoor home décor begins with a sturdy deck and seating. Building a deck that is large enough to accommodate family and guests, but not so large that it overshadows the house is a good foundation to build on. Odd shapes for decks and decks large enough to section off are a great way to incorporate the needs of several different family members. A husband, for example, may be more interested in a spa area, while the wife is more interested in a space for serving dinners and snacks. Lattice walls and trellises are great ways to define these sections of the outdoor space.

Garden statues, yard tiles, and iron art are not lost in the shuffle with outdoor home décor. There is still a very respectable place for them. Gardens and flowers also blend into the plan for modern decks and furniture to give the overall look a tinge of nature. In addition to small, low flowers that might be found on a deck, colorful gardens or handing plants allow nature to play its part. Screens made from old shutters, rustic iron chandeliers and remnant fabric used as tablecloths are a fun way to put repurposing to its ultimate test. How well can you take something old and make everyone who sees it believe that it is something new?
